Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty are minimally invasive procedures that stabilise the fractured vertebra using specialised medical cement. Vertebral compression fractures (VCF) are the result of weakness of vertebrae, most commonly caused by osteoporosis or cancer. VCF can lead to severe back pain and reduced mobility. Kyphoplasty differs from Vertebroplasty in that, a small balloon may first be used to restore some of the lost height of the collapsed bone. This results in better mechanical stability compared to Vertebroplasty. Many patients experience rapid pain relief and improved mobility, often within days of the procedure.
