Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is an advanced minimally invasive procedure designed to provide long-lasting relief from chronic face, neck, back, or joint pain. Using specialized needles placed under X-ray guidance, controlled heat is applied to interrupt the conduction of pain sensation through tiny pain-transmitting nerves responsible for chronic pain. These nerves do not control muscle strength or movement. So, neurological deficits rarely occur after Radiofrequency Ablation. Pain relief can last from several months to several years, allowing improved quality of life, and reduced dependence on pain medications. There are 4 variations of RFA:
Conventional Radiofrequency Ablation is done for a variety of conditions. The most common conditions in our set-up are: Trigeminal Neuralgia, Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia, Coccygodynia (Tail-Bone pain), Lumbar Facet Arthropathy and Cervical Facet Arthropathy.
Cooled Radiofrequency Ablation is a type of RFA which produces bigger lesions. It gives great results for Sacro-Iliac Joint Arthropathy and Lumbar Facet Arthropathy.
Pulsed Radiofrequency Treatment is a form of neuromodulation reserved for very delicate and critical nerves which are important for movement and maintaining important daily muscle activity. Combined along with Transforaminal Epidural Injection (Neuroplasty) for treatment of sciatica it provides better relief than either of these alone.
Radiofrequency Disc Annuloplasty or "Biaculoplasty" involves RFA of painful lumbar discs. This gives great results in chronic pain due to Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease while avoiding the need for complex spine surgeries.
